Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in condensed matter theory at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The appointment will be for two years, with possibility of renewal for a third year contingent on funding and progress made. The start date is expected to be Fall 2026 but is negotiable.
The successful candidate will work under the joint supervision of Prof. Alex Levchenko and Prof. Ilya Esterlis. Topics of current interest include (but are not limited to): (1) superconductivity in both conventional and unconventional systems, including the interplay between anomalous metallic behavior and superconductivity; (2) properties of the two-dimensional electron systems at intermediate and strong coupling, including Wigner crystal and related phases; (3) optical probes of condensed matter systems; e.g., exciton response in transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures, nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center sensing, etc. Applicants are also encouraged to interact with other members of the condensed matter theory group and conduct independent research.
Minimal expectations include completion of the PhD by the start date of the appointment and demonstration of proficiency in carrying out research in theoretical condensed matter physics through research publications and/or presentations. To apply, please submit a CV with publication list and a brief research statement (not more than 2 pages in length) using the application form. Applicants should also arrange for at least two letters of reference sent to the same address. The review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Inquiries regarding the position should be directed to Alex Levchenko (levchenko AT physics.wisc.edu) and Ilya Esterlis (esterlis AT wisc.edu).
